Westerly, Rhode Island
All of these links are to establishments within a few miles of the beaches.
There's nothing in the world like the magic of a stroll through downtown Westerly, the library, and the Wilcox Park.
For area hiking and exploration, check out the Westerly Land Trust's properties and events.
Of course there may be rain to keep you inside for an hour or two. Locally, tour the Babcock-Smith house for insight on 18-19th century life. In Mystic, a dozen miles west of Westerly, the Seaport provides an enchanting illustration of mid-19th century seaport life. Buy a sizzling read at Other Tiger bookstore. Local theater, mostly comedies, is a treat. I've got my season tickets to the Granite Theatre.
The Bellone Family has the area's best resort lodging at the Breezeway. The "new" Ocean House is open and fabulous. My favorite B&B's are the classic Grandview and the meditteranean Villa. If you're a Shepard romantic and love the idea of motor courts, I suggest Phil and Ann's in Charlestown or Watch Hill Court in WH.
When you finally get hungry, you can't beat crisp-crust pizza at Pizza Place, across from the park. Senior Flaco's serves up some tasty salsa and fish tacos. For Italian dining, by the beach, ride over to Maria's Seaside Cafe on Atlantic Avenue.
For you serious, lycra-clad bicyclists, visit Amos Brumble for some gear, adjustments, and some good racing stories.
Oh, on the commute this year, I'm riding a HEBB electric. It's great! Contact me if you'd like a test ride.
What site wouldn't be complete without weather forecasts? This one, so I'll provide, instead, history.
Various magical and memorable events are happening along Atlantic Avenue all summer long, thanks to the Misquamicut Business Association, the Town of Westerly, and Caswell Cooke.
This season's benefit rides favor: Ocean Community YMCA, Granite Theatre, Colonial Theater, Mystic Seaport, WRNI RI public radio, WCNI community radio, The Westerly Land Trust, Westerly Library, and Cross Mills Library (Charlestown). THANKS to these community organizations and thanks for your support!
